Rosacea is a chronic skin condition that causes facial redness. Its other symptoms include flushing, itching, and dryness of the skin. Pimples and pustules can easily be mistaken for acne. ROSACEA FAQ

    What Causes Rosacea?
Rosacea is believed to be genetically inherited. It is also believed to be attributed to skin bacteria, mites, sun damage and stress. Rosacea is more often seen with lighter skin types (example: English, Irish and Eastern Europeans). However, though less often it also occurs with darker skins (ex: Mediterranean, Hispanic and Asian). It affects both men and women and is triggered by so called trigger factors including temperature changes, alcohol, spicy food, inappropriate choice of cosmetic products, smoking and sun.

What Are The Symptoms Of Rosacea?
Rosacea manifests itself in a variety of different ways. Its symptoms are more pronounced in the central parts of the face (cheeks, nose and chin). Depending on the severity, patients may experience slight redness (telangiectasia), transient or persistent flushing (erythema), papules, pustules, general skin swelling, itching or burning, skin bumps, watery eyes and hardening of the skin.

What Is The Difference Between Acne And Acne Rosacea?
Acne and rosacea are two different conditions. Acne or acne vulgaris is a skin condition affecting teens and adults of all ages and skin types. It is characterized by plugging of the follicles resulting in pimples. Rosacea is a condition that only affects the face. It is predominantly characterized by redness and flushing. Though both conditions may have the similar symptoms there is a fine difference in the way they are treated.

What Are The Treatments For Rosacea?
Rosacea is a chronic condition. The treatments are tailored based on its severity and symptoms. Because the condition typically worsens due to the environmental and lifestyle “trigger factors”, it is most important to be familiar with these factors and learn to avoid and control them. Once again, some of these factors are exposure to extreme temperatures, consumption of spicy foods or alcohol, smoking, bad choice in cosmetic products and more. Prevention and proper skin care are the most important component of a comprehensive rosacea treatment protocol. Special sensitive skin facial treatments reduce rosacea symptoms. Gentle chemical peels exfoliate the skin, control breakouts and further calm skin down. To learn more about rosacea skin care please contact our Bronx / Westchester office. Facial redness and visible blood vessels are effectively treated with lasers and intense pulse light therapy.

Will Laser Therapy Help Me Control Rosacea And Reduce Redness?
Today, laser therapy is a treatment of choice for rosacea related redness or telangiectasia. There are several different laser modalities (such as ND: Yag Laser or IPL) that are used as stand along treatments or in combination with other procedures to achieve best results. The most popular procedures are Laser Facial, Laser Skin Rejuvenation, or IPL PhotoFacial. A typical treatment protocol required three to five treatments scheduled three to six weeks apart. The treatments take 30-45 minutes, are pain–free and require no healing time. If you have visible vessels on or around the nose, on the cheeks and chin, they are treated with a vascular laser. The procedure is called laser vein removal. All of these treatment offer immediate and long term improvements. To learn more please contact our Bronx / Westchester location.

FREE Rosacea or Acne Rosacea consultations can be arranged several days or a week in advance. Consultations are used to discuss your goals, help you learn about the procedures and answer all your questions. Treatments may be started on the same day.
